Please Help Me Find Music Software And Equipment?

I need music software and equipment!
A) Software- Something that can record voice, generate the sounds instruments make and play them all together...like combine them but enable me to edit them until we're done with it. Some special effects would be nice too--not that I need them. They just would. Also, allows me to hook up instruments somehow and sounds professional.
2) Equipment- decent recording microphone (going for cheapest possible) and something that can hook instruments up to the computer (if possible)
